NB Power Fails To Address Unresolved Workplace Bullying Concerns: Charity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK -

BullyingCanada, the national anti-bullying charitable organization is once again drawing attention to the issue of workplace bullying in New Brunswick.

Rob Frenette, one of the Executive Directors of BullyingCanada issued a letter to NB Power President, Gaëtan Thomas, on September 13, 2011 outlining the fact that a total of 15 employees to date have brought the issue of workplace bullying to the attention of the national charity.

"We were contacted by several employees of NB Power, expressing their concerns of being bullied by their supervisors" said Rob Frenette.

"A letter was sent via email and courier to the attention of Mr.
Thomas, along with Premier Alward, as well as Hon. Craig Leonard, Minister of Energy and François Levert, Acting Ombudsman. To date, we have not received a reply" said Frenette.

"NB Power does not like when employees speak their minds." One employee tells Frenette.

"I was moved from a job in a few years ago that I really enjoyed because the manager and I didn't see eye to eye on a number of things.
They replaced me with a good friend of hers."

On December 6, Kathleen Duguay, the Public Affairs Manager of NB Power sent Frenette an email confirming that the Human Resources Department of NB Power would consider Frenette's request to do a head office wide workplace bullying workshop. Despite reassurance from NB Power that a response to Frenette's letter would be received by end of day on Friday, December-09-11 to date a letter has not been received via email as promised.

"I question how concerned NB Power is about workplace bullying. It's quite alarming to me that we are now in to December, and the concerns that were raised to the attention of Mr. Thomas (in September) have yet to be addressed." Said Frenette.
